In 2008, a trial court found that Starbucks violated California law by requiring Baristas to share tip jar monies with Shift Supervisors and ordered Starbucks to repay Baristas more than $100 million in tips and prejudgment interest. On June 2, 2009, the Court of Appeal reversed the trial court’s judgment, and the California Supreme Court has declined to hear the Baristas’ appeal of that decision. The Supreme Court’s decision not to hear the Baristas’ appeal means that the case is now over and Baristas will not be able to recover any money from Starbucks in this case.
